Creating Target Models

Source (parent) models can have multiple target (child)models under them. Contents in target models can be independent of the source model or replicate the objects and properties of their source model. Using the Auto Sync feature, you can sync any changes introduced to the source model with its target models.

To create target models, follow these steps:

  1. Right-click a source model and click New Model.
  2. The Target Model window appears.

  3. Enter appropriate values in the fields. Refer to the following table for field descriptions.
  4. Field Description
    Name Specifies a name for the model
    File Name Specifies a name for the model file. This field is auto-populated.

    Auto Sync

    Specifies whether the target model is synced with the source model. For more information, refer to the Auto Sync topic.

    Type Specifies the type of the model. Available options are: Physical, Logical/Physical.

    Database

    Specifies the database for the model

    Version

    Specifies the database version

    Advanced Denormalization

    Specifies whether the source objects are merged into the target objects.

    Available only for NoSQL databases. For more information, refer to the Denormalizing NoSQL Database Models topic.

    Auto Normalization

    Specifies whether the normalization should be through an auto-mechanism

  5. Click OK.
  6. The model is added to the selected folder and opens in the Diagram window.

Note: You can also import existing models as target models from your local machine or erwin Mart Portal. For more information, refer to the Importing Models section in Managing Projects topic.
