How Data Governance and Data Virtualization will save us from the butterfly effect
LIVE TALK 11 MAY | 12 pm | 1H + Q&A
Today, within company information systems there are multiple integrations between internal and external applications. Manual entry is only one of the many ways in which information is collected. It is easy to understand that when even one of the systems is “altered ”(replaced, switched off because obsolete, or simply updated), there is a direct impact on everything that revolves around it.
It is called the “butterfly effect“, and in chaos theory it is the phenomenon that explains how a slight alteration of the initial conditions changes everything else in an unpredictable way.
An effect that is all the more vigorous the more the systems are interconnected. So how can you survive the butterfly effect? How can you govern it effectively, without being overwhelmed?
Impact analysis, through effective Data Governance tools (which offer the possibility to see and understand what happens to the entire logical chain of information) and Data Virtualization (which allows users to continue working while hiding the complexity of a constantly evolving infrastructure) constitute the only way to predict, control and govern the butterfly effect.
To understand how, we will analyze two specific Use Cases, in the Finance and TelCo fields.
Specifically, in the two use cases, we will see how Data Virtualization allows users to get the correct data, real time and without the need for replicas to different applications and, above all, to different users (who have different needs for access and use of data) , and how Data Governance represents the technological element thanks to which it is possible to outline the entire data path and therefore evaluate the impact a change may have on the global process.
