Physical Storage Objects

You can define physical storage objects, such as a database, tablespace, and segment, for some target servers, and specify parameters for the storage objects. The physical storage objects and parameters you can define are different, based on the target server you select. The physical storage options that you see after you select a target server are customized so you only see the available options for your target server. This customization assists you in managing the physical allocation of objects in your database.

If you reverse engineer a database, the physical storage information is imported so you can maintain the original storage assignment for each table, or change the parameters as your model evolves. When you complete designing a model, you can generate the physical schema and include the new physical storage information.

If you have the appropriate security permissions to create and modify objects on your database, you can add a new physical storage object or modify the parameters for an existing object. Once you define a physical storage object, you can assign one or more tables to it. When you forward engineer a model, the tables are stored in the physical storage object that you specify.
