Enter Subject Area User-Defined Property Values

You use the UDP tab in the Subject Area Editor to enter user-defined property values for a subject area. You open the User Defined Properties : Logical editor (when you are in a logical model) or the User Defined Properties : Physical editor (when you are in a physical model) from within the UDP tab so that you can add, edit, or delete user-defined properties for a subject area.

To enter a subject area user-defined property value

  1. Click Subject Areas on the Model menu.

    The Subject Area Editor opens.

  2. Click the UDP tab.
  3. Select the subject area from the Subject Area list for which you want to enter a user-defined property value, then click the (Model Editor_UDP Tab_UDP Editor Button to open UDP Editor) icon.

    The User Defined Properties : Logical dialog opens if you are in a logical model, or the User Defined Properties : Physical dialog opens if you are in a physical model.

  4. Enter the user-defined property information in the following columns and click OK.
    Name

    Specifies the name of the UDP.

    Type

    Specifies the UDP datatype. Click the cell and select one of the following datatypes from the drop-down list:

    Command

    Specifies to create a Command UDP that launches a file or application.

    Note: When you use the Command datatype for a user-defined property, the box where the property name appears becomes a button that you can click to launch the specified file or application.

    Date

    Specifies to create a Date UDP to allow dates in MM/DD/YYYY format.

    Int

    Specifies to create an Int UDP so you can enter an integer (whole number).

    Real

    Specifies to create a Real UDP so you can enter a real number (with decimal).

    Text

    Specifies to create a Text UDP so you can enter ASCII text.

    List

    Specifies to create a List UDP so you can create a list box with user-defined choices.

    Default

    Specifies a UDP default value when applicable.

    Description

    Specifies the description for the UDP.

    The UDP values are assigned, the dialog closes, and you are returned to the UDP tab in the Subject Area Editor.

  5. Click Close.

    The user-defined property values for the subject area are saved, and the Subject Area Editor dialog closes.
