Set Naming Standards Options

Use the Naming Standards pane to generate object names in the target model from those of the source model. You can set name conversion preferences and indicate a naming standards file created in the Naming Standards tool to enforce standards as source model objects are imported into your target model.

To set name mapping options

  1. Click Design Layers, Add Model Source on the Actions menu.

The Add Model Source Wizard opens on the Source Model pane.

  2. Click Naming Standards in the Explorer pane.

    The Naming Standards pane opens.

  3. Work with the following options:

    Object Type

Displays the objects for which you can set name conversion preferences. When two objects appear in the box, you set the name conversion preferences from the first object to the second object.

    Property/Value Table

Displays a two column table that lists the property and value for the selected object type. To change the value, click the row in the table to edit the text (for example, to change the macro) or display a drop-down list with the available options. The available options include:

    Macro Text

Specifies the default macro that is used to derive the physical model object name from the logical model object name. You can enter a new macro for the selected object type.

    Use Glossary

Specifies that your glossary should or should not be used in name mapping. Select true to use a glossary of words and abbreviations to derive the physical model object name. Select false to not use a glossary of words and abbreviations.

    Abbreviation Type

Specifies that you will use an abbreviation or alternate abbreviation from the glossary to derive the physical model object name. Available only when you select true in the Use Glossary option.

    Prefix

Specifies the prefix text to add before table, view, column, domain, relationship, index, and validation names in the physical model. You can click the row in the table, then enter the prefix name.

    Suffix

Specifies the suffix text to add after table, view, column, domain, relationship, index, and validation names in the physical model. You can click the row in the table, then enter the suffix name.

    Special Characters

Specifies how to treat special characters. You can leave them unchanged, remove them, or replace them with a character you indicate.

    Remove Vowel

Indicates that you want to remove vowels from object names in the derived model.

    Use Naming Standards

Specifies an existing naming standards (*.nsm) file to use when enforcing standards in the derived model. Use Browse File System or Browse erwin MM to select a standards file.

  4. Click Next.

    The Options pane opens.

Note: You can click the Add button at any time to add the model source.
