Lay Out a Diagram Automatically

During a modeling session, your workspace may become disorganized. For example, if you add tables on the diagram window using copy and paste, the result can be disorganized or can include overlapping objects. You can lay out your diagram to adjust all objects in the current subject area to produce a more organized diagram window.

The positions of the objects are adjusted based on their size at the time the option is selected. Therefore, you should select the display level and the amount of information displayed in tables, entities, or views prior to choosing the automatic layout option.

To lay out a diagram automatically

  1. Open the diagram that you want to lay out.
  2. Click Layout on the Diagram menu and choose one from the following options:
  3. Work with the following additional options:
    Reset Relationship Paths

Resizes the selected relationship path to the shortest path.

    Reset Objects to Automatic Sizing

Resets the selected objects to their default sizes.

Note: You can reverse automatic layout of a diagram using the Undo option on the main toolbar.
