Define Teradata Indexes

You can use the Teradata Table Index or Teradata Join Index editor to create a set of new indexes on an existing table or join index in a Teradata physical model.

To define a Teradata index

  1. Right-click an index and select Index Properties.

    The Teradata Table Index Editor opens.

  2. Select an index and work with the following options:

    Note: Click New New icon in property editors to create a new object on the toolbar to create a new table index or join index. Use the Enter filter text text box to filter a very large list of indexes to quickly locate the one you want to work with.

    Physical Name

    Specifies the physical name of the index.

    Type

    Shows the key group type. This is a read-only field.

    Primary index

    Specifies that the index is the primary index. If this check box is not selected, then the index is a secondary index.

    Is Unique

    Specifies that the fields defined in the index must be unique.

    Physical Only

    Lets you select whether the table should be suppressed from a logical model and appear in a physical model only.

    Generate

    Generates DDL for this object during Forward Engineering.

    Show FK Indexes

    Specifies whether you want to display Foreign Key indexes.

  3. Complete the following fields on the General tab:
    Index Members

    Specifies the columns for the table that have the index and are key group members. You can select any column to be a key group member. The columns can be sorted.

  4. Specify general options, such as indicating a primary index, ordering, constraint name, and partitioning expressions on the Options tab.
  5. (Optional) Click the Comment tab and enter any comments that you want to associate with the object.
  6. (Optional) Click the Where Used tab to view where the object is used within the model.
  7. (Optional) Click the UDP tab to work with user-defined properties for the object.
  8. (Optional) Click the Notes tab to view and edit user notes.
  9. (Optional) Click the Extended Notes tab to view or edit user notes.
  10. Click Close.

    The Teradata Table Index Editor closes.
