Apply Naming Standards to the Derived Model
Use the features in the Naming Standards pane to apply naming standards to the derived model. Only certain derive scenarios (such as deriving a physical model from a logical model) use name mapping. When the selected model types for the derive cannot use name mapping, no options appear on this pane.
To apply naming standards for the derived model
- Click Design Layers, Derive New Model on the Actions menu.
The Derive Model wizard opens on the Target Model pane.
- Click Naming Standards in the Explorer pane.
The Naming Standards pane opens.
- Work with the following options:
- Object Type
Displays the objects for which you can set name conversion preferences. When two objects appear in the box, you set the name conversion preferences from the first object to the second object.
- Property/Value Table
Displays a two column table that lists the property and value for the selected object type. To change the value, click the row in the table to edit the text (for example, to change the macro) or display a drop-down list with the available options. The available options include:
- Special Characters
Specifies how to treat special characters. You can leave them unchanged, remove them, or replace them with a character you indicate.
- Remove Vowel
Indicates that you want to remove vowels from object names in the derived model.
- Allow Special DBMS Characters
Specifies that special characters are allowed in the target model object names.
- Active Model Template for Naming Standards
Specifies an existing model template to use to enforce standards in the derived model. Use Browse File System to select a standards file. Use this option when you want to use a .NSM file from a previous version. Ensure that the .NSM file is imported into the model template that you select.

The Options pane opens.
