Define Informix DBSpaces
When your target server is Informix, you can use the Informix DBSpace Editor to add and specify the parameters for a dbspace in which to store Informix database tables.
To define an Informix dbspace
- Click Target - Informix, DB Spaces on the Model menu.
The Informix DBSpace Editor opens.
- Work with the following options:
Previous
Positions the editor on the previous dbspace in the Navigation Grid.
Next
Positions the editor on the next dbspace in the Navigation Grid.
Sort
Sorts the dbspaces by alphabetic or reverse alphabetic order. Click the Sort button to specify how to sort the list.
DB Sync
Opens the DB Sync wizard, where you can perform a database-level compare of objects in the current model with matching objects in another model or database.
New
Creates a new dbspace that becomes the current object in the editor.
Delete
Deletes the selected dbspace.
Help
Accesses online help for the editor.
Lets you enter text to filter a large list of dbspace objects so you can quickly locate the one that you want.
- Name
Displays the dbspace name. You can change the dbspace name in this field.
- (Optional) Click the Where Used tab to view where the selected dbspace object is being used in your model.
- Click the Comment tab to enter a comment for the dbspace.
- Click the UDP tab to enter user-defined property values for the dbspace.
- Click the Notes tab view or enter any user notes for the dbspace.
- Click Close.
The Informix dbspace is defined and the Informix DBSpace Editor closes.
The Informix DBSpace dialog includes the following tabs:
- Comment Add and specify the parameters for a dbspace in which to store Informix database tables, and enter a comment for a dbspace.
- UDP Enter user-defined property values for a dbspace.
- DBSpace

Displays all available dbspaces in the current model.
- New
-
Opens the New DBSpace dialog and add a dbspace name.
- Rename
-
Opens the Rename DBSpace dialog and rename the selected dbspace.
- Delete
-
Deletes the selected dbspace.
- DB Sync

Note: Although you can enter a name for a new dbspace and view the names of existing dbspaces in the Informix DBSpace dialog, you cannot generate a dbspace from erwin Data Modeler. You must use the native tools supplied by Informix to add a dbspace.
When your target server is Informix, you can use the Comment tab in the Informix DBSpace dialog to add and specify the parameters for a dbspace in which to store Informix database tables, and to enter a comment for a dbspace.
The Comment tab contains the following options:

Type or change a comment for the dbspace.

When your target server is Informix, you can use the UDP tab in the Informix DBSpace dialog to enter user-defined property values for a dbspace in which to store Informix database tables.
The UDP tab contains the following options:
- Property

Displays the name of the user-defined property (UDP) associated with the dbspace. When you use the Command datatype for a UDP, the Property box is a button that you can click to launch a file or application that you enter in the Value box.
- Value
-
If you use a default value when you add a UDP, the property value is automatically specified. Otherwise, you can Enter or select a property value depending on the value datatype:
- Enter the property value in the Value box for Integer, Real Number, and Text datatypes.
- Enter a date value; click
to change the month, day, and year, or click
to select a date for the Date datatype.
- Select a value from the Value list for the List datatype. For example, you can add a UDP to select the backup frequency such as "daily."
- Enter a system command or click
to browse for a file or executable program for the Command datatype. For example, you can enter or select C:\Myfile.doc to launch the Microsoft Word document "Myfile.doc."
Opens the UDP Dictionary dialog.
