Table Editor

Use the following options and tabs in the Table Editor to add a new table or modify the properties of an existing table. Available options and tabs will vary based upon your target DBMS and the model properties you select in the Model Editor.

Positions the editor on the previous table in the Navigation Grid

Positions the editor on the next table in the Navigation Grid

property editor SORT icon Sort

Sorts the tables by alphabetic or reverse alphabetic order. You select the method you want using the drop-down menu that opens after you click the Sort button. Visual cues are provided for how the table list is currently sorted:

Specifies that the table list is sorted in alphabetic order

Property editor Reverse Alpha Sort Button

Specifies that the table list is sorted in reverse alphabetic order

New icon in property editors to create a new object New

Creates a new table that becomes the current object in the editor

property editor DELETE button Delete

Deletes the selected table

property editor DB SYNC button DB Sync

Opens the DB Sync wizard so you can perform a database level compare of objects in the current model with matching objects in another model

Column Editor

Opens the column editor dialog box.

Opens online help for the editor.

Lets you filter a very large list of tables in the Navigation Grid to quickly locate the table for which you need to view or define properties.

Physical Name

Specifies the physical name of the table. You can change the physical name of the table in this field.

Schema

Specifies the schema of the database to which the table belongs. You select the schema from the drop-down list.

SQL Server Table Type

This property applies only to SQL Server target database. It specifies the type of the SQL Server table and has three possible values:

Disk Based

Memory Optimized (applicable to SQL Server version 2014 and above)

File (applicable SQL Server 2012 and above)

Physical Only

Specifies whether the table is suppressed from a logical model and appears in a physical model only.

Generate

Generates SQL during forward engineering. Clear the check box if you do not want to generate SQL.

Dimensional Tab

Specify dimensional modeling table roles and document how to update information in the data warehouse if the table has a dimension role.

This tab is only available if you selected the Is Dimensional check box in the Model Editor.

Data Movement Rule Tab

Document data movement rules for a table.

This tab is only available if you selected the Data Movement check box in the Model Editor.

General Tab

View and modify physical storage properties for a table and associate tables to predefined physical storage devices. Depending on your target DBMS, you may have additional database-specific table properties that can be set.

Partitions Tab

Define partition columns for a table.

DataCompression

Define data compression options for a table. The data compression types available for a table are None, Row, and Page.

Validation Tab

Specify the validation rules to attach to a table.

Permission Tab

Lets you define table permissions.

Comment Tab

Lets you enter any comments that you want to associate with the table.

Volumetrics Tab

Lets you enter sizing information, including growth estimates, for a table.

Use the Volumetrics dialog to view and report table and database size calculations.

SQL Tab

Lets you preview the forward engineering script of the selected table and the corresponding comments, partitions, and physical storage.

Style Tab

Work with style sheets, which are used to format the font and other graphical themes used in the display of the table.

Icon Tab

Specify the icon style to use for the table.

Object Creation Order Tab

Specify the order of DDL generation.

Where Used Tab

View where the table is used within the model.

UDP Tab

Lets you enter user-defined property values for a table.

Notes Tab

View table history information and view or edit user notes.

When you select a physical storage object in which to store a table, the default or current parameters for that object appear with the table. Therefore, when you view a table in the Table Editor, you can see the associated table name and the physical object in which the table is stored, and you can modify the parameters for that physical storage object. You can also increase or decrease the space available for the selected table, create space to store additional tables in the same physical object, or modify the size of storage objects as they are created.
