Redo Log Buffer

The Redo log buffer is an area in memory that Oracle uses to collect DMLs before they are written to the Redo log files. The log file write occurs when either a transaction commits or a Redo log buffer is full. Because erwin Data Modeler Workgroup Edition tends to generate fairly large transactions, use a log buffer size of 163840 bytes. (For single disk Oracle installations, use a log buffer size of 655360 bytes.) Setting the Redo log buffer size to a value smaller than the recommended value can degrade I/O performance. Using a larger value requires more memory.

The Redo log buffer size is defined using the LOG_BUFFER parameter in the INIT.ora or INIT<SID>.ora file.
