erwin Named a Top 100 Company in Data Management and Analysis by Database Trends and Applications for Third Consecutive Year

Melville, N.Y., June 14th, 2018 – erwin, the data governance company, has been recognized by Database Trends and Applications (DBTA) magazine in this year’s “DBTA 100: The Companies That Matter Most in Data,” a special list that salutes today’s top companies in data management and analysis. This is the third consecutive year erwin has made this prestigious list.

“A little more than two years ago we became a stand-alone company and set out on our journey to transform erwin from a data modeling product into a world-class data governance company,” said Adam Famularo, erwin’s CEO. “This recognition, for the third consecutive year, affirms our vision, innovation and commitment to helping customers fully use their data for strategic advantage and remove risk from the systems and processes associated with that data.”

With three acquisitions and significant investment in R&D, erwin has integrated data governance, enterprise architecture, business process and data modeling capabilities to deliver the erwin EDGE Platform to support Data Governance 2.0.

The erwin EDGE creates an “enterprise data governance experience” for data-driven insights, agile innovation, regulatory compliance and business transformation. It delivers on the Data Governance 2.0 imperative by enabling organizations to discover, understand, govern and socialize their data assets – regardless of format or location –  for greater visibility, control and value across the enterprise. It serves as the foundation for using data not only to mitigate risk in terms of data exposures but also to accomplish other organizational objectives, including boosting topline revenue.

The “DBTA 100” is compiled annually by the editorial staff, and this year’s selections appear in the June edition of the magazine and on www.dbta.com. erwin is also featured in DBTA’s View from the Top.

Second Generation of erwin DM NoSQL Strengthens Data Governance Across More Database Platforms

ENTERPRISE DATA WORLD, SAN DIEGO, April 24, 2018erwin, the data governance company, today announced the next generation of erwin DM NoSQL to support native integration of the Couchbase Data Platform for new enterprise applications and legacy RDBMS-based migrations. The solution is the first and only enterprise-class solution to provide native (non-relational) data modeling for document databases, automating the creation of platform-specific deployment scripts, to strengthen data governance. It reduces the risks and costs associated with new platform adoption and accelerates the time-to-value.

erwin DM NoSQL enables rapid application deployment, cloud infrastructure migration and reverse-engineering of NoSQL metadata so enterprises can discover, understand, govern and socialize NoSQL data sources. It gives both business and technical stakeholders a complete and contextual view of their document database assets, allowing them to deploy these instances in an efficient and cost-effective way. It also mitigates the risks inherent to managing mission-critical data and enables compliance with expanding regulatory requirements, such as the European Union’s impending General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

“Digital transformation makes extensive use of real-time, unstructured data sources, such as sensor and click-stream data, email logs, social media and the Internet of Things,” explains Martin Owen, Senior Vice President of Products, erwin. “We continue to expand our ‘any-squared’ (Any2) approach, so ‘any data’ from ‘anywhere’ can be used to drive business value while being governed according to the appropriate internal and external regulatory standards. This latest version of erwin DM NoSQL enables enterprises using the market’s top NoSQL platforms to take full advantage of data modeling to accomplish their goals.”

“Legacy relational database management systems are complex and difficult to change, expensive to maintain, and too slow to keep pace with digital business,” said Matt McDonough, Vice President of Business Development, Couchbase. “Now with erwin DM NoSQL native integration of the Couchbase Data Platform, our customers have a solution to support digital transformation initiatives and accelerate migrations from relational data sources to rich, modern and flexible JSON structures with greater accuracy, efficiency and success. Couchbase is already deployed at customers in heavily-regulated industries, and with its encryption, access and control capabilities, customers facing GDPR regulations will find additional benefit to erwin DM NoSQL’s sound documentation and entity relationship mapping that leads to better data quality and compliance.”

Key features and benefits of the latest version of erwin DM NoSQL include:

  • Import and visualize erwin DM relational data models
  • Transform entity relation diagrams to a visual document database representation using our patent-pending Query-Optimized Modeling™
  • Forward-engineer document database schema generation scripts
  • Enable traditional DBMS teams and developers to work effectively with document databases
  • Break down the complexities of NoSQL through modeling and visualization
  • Document NoSQL data sources for easier discovery and understanding
  • Expose NoSQL data sources to the enterprise in a standardized and governed way

erwin DM NoSQL is now generally available to support both Couchbase and MongoDB database platforms.

erwin, Inc. Celebrates Two-Year Anniversary as an Independent Software Provider

Melville, N.Y., April 17, 2018erwin, Inc. is celebrating two years as a stand-alone software company, following private equity firm Parallax Capital Partners’ acquisition from CA Technologies in April 2016. During the past 24 months, the company has completed three acquisitions, made significant investments in R&D, launched its EDGE data governance (DG) platform, and rebranded itself as “the data governance company.

“When Parallax completed its acquisition of erwin, we knew we had a tremendous foundation with the industry’s number one data modeling solution to build upon, “said Adam Famularo, CEO, erwin, Inc. “Over the past two years, we have turned this vision into reality — transforming erwin from a popular software tool into a standalone company that is now positioned as a serious player within the data governance market.”

The company has made three acquisitions: enterprise architecture (EA) company Corso, business process (BP) modeling company Casewise, and data harvesting technology and data governance (DG) consulting services company A&P Consulting.

These acquisitions, along with significant investment in R&D across three continents, have culminated in a unified software platform centered around data governance with integrations to EA, BP and DM. The erwin EDGE creates an ‘enterprise data governance experience’ to deliver on the Data Governance 2.0 imperative: the collaboration of IT with the business to produce data-driven insights that lead to agile innovation and business transformation while ensuring regulatory compliance.

The company also released  erwin DM NoSQL, the first and only enterprise-class solution to provide native (non-relational) data modeling for document databases, automating the creation of platform-specific deployment scripts, to strengthen data governance. The solution was named a DBTA Trend-Setting Product for 2018.

“It has been said that data is the new oil,” continued Famularo. “However, if organizations don’t know where their data is, who is accessing it, and ensuring that it is governed and secure it can lead to the next major ‘oil’ spill – threatening non-compliance with regulations like the upcoming General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), fines, stock decline, loss of customer trust, and ultimately a tarnished brand. With the deadline for GDPR quickly approaching and with major breaches and questions of data privacy and use in the headlines, data governance has never been more relevant.”

To help organizations successfully launch and navigate effective data governance journeys, erwin released the 2018 State of Data Governance Report, which indicated broader awareness and enterprise focus for data governance, and identified challenges in terms of understanding, executive support and financing. The report also found that a bare 6% of North American enterprises said they are prepared for the upcoming GDPR regulation.

The company has also developed and released its DG RediChekTM to help organizations determine their state of DG readiness. The easy-to-use, free tool includes a comprehensive questionnaire covering the areas most critical to DG readiness and therefore the ability to achieve regulatory compliance, as well as improve customer satisfaction and decision-making among other objectives for the data-driven enterprise

erwin’s loyal customer base continues to expand, with hundreds of new logos added since the company’s launch. With customer satisfaction as its number one priority, erwin is proud that its Net Promoter Score®, which measures customer experience and predicts business growth, is more than double the software industry average. The company also continues to win industry awards including a Top 100 Company by DBTA, 5-Star Rating in CRN’s 2018 Partner Program Guide, DBTA Readers’ Choice Award for Data Modeling, and 2018 CRN Channel Chiefs recognition for its SVP for Global Channels and Inside Sales, David Casillo.

erwin, Inc. Given 5-Star Rating in CRN’s 2018 Partner Program Guide

Melville, NY April 2, 2017 – erwin, Inc., the data governance company, announced today that CRN®, a brand of The Channel Company, has given erwin a 5-Star rating in its 2018 Partner Program Guide. This annual guide is the definitive listing of partner programs from technology vendors that provide products and services through the IT channel. The 5-Star Partner Program Guide rating recognizes an elite subset of companies that offer solution providers the best partnering elements in their channel programs.

To determine the 2018 5-Star ratings, The Channel Company’s research team assessed each vendor’s partner program based on investments in program offerings, partner profitability, partner training, education and support, marketing programs and resources, sales support and communication.

The erwin Partner Program is a revenue-based program offering valuable benefits, rewards and support. Currently the partner program has more than 300 global channel partners. Data governance is a growing market, and erwin provides the only integrated software platform combining data governance with enterprise architecture, business process and data modeling.

“Finding the right technology vendor to partner with can be a daunting task, given the vast array of choices now available to solution providers,” said Robert Faletra, Executive Chairman of The Channel Company. “CRN’s Partner Program Guide and 5-Star ratings help them narrow the field and find the best fit, identifying the most rewarding partner programs and providing crucial insight into their strengths and benefits. We are pleased to present our 2018 PPG list, recognizing the strongest and most successful partner programs in the channel today.”

“Data has been erwin’s sole business for a very long time.  Over the last two years we’ve become a stand-alone company, completed several acquisitions and invested heavily in R&D to transform our market-leading data modeling software into the ultimate data governance platform,” said David Casillo, Sr. Vice President, Global Channels and Inside Sales for erwin. “Given today’s business and technology challenges – from data breaches to the dawn of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)– it’s an exciting time for erwin and our channel partners. The data governance market will continue to accelerate for resellers, consultants, system integrators, service providers and others delivering value in the channel.”

The 2018 Partner Program Guide will be featured in the April issue of CRN and online at www.CRN.com/ppg.

erwin Develops the Data Governance RediChek

Melville, N.Y., March 19, 2018erwin, Inc., the data governance company, today announced the availability of a new, free app to help organizations determine their state of data governance (DG) readiness. The erwin DG RediChekTM includes a comprehensive questionnaire covering the areas most critical to DG readiness and therefore the ability to achieve regulatory compliance, as well as improve customer satisfaction and decision-making among other objectives for the data-driven enterprise.

The release of this app follows on the heels of erwin’s 2018 State of Data Governance Report that discovered only 6% of North American enterprises consider themselves prepared for the May 25 effective date of the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

“That shockingly small number is a big deal because the mandate’s data security and privacy requirements apply to any business in any sector in any country that serves even one EU citizen,” explains Mariann McDonagh, erwin’s CMO. “A lot of organizations may not realize they’re subject to GDPR, so they’ll have to fast track their data governance initiatives. This tool will help them – and any enterprise – understand how to approach DG for maximum strategic advantage, going beyond just compliance.”

The DG RediChek examines these five key pillars of DG readiness:

  • Initiative sponsorship
  • Organizational support
  • Team resources
  • Data management methodology
  • Delivery capability

Insights regarding the questions and answers are displayed in an interactive tutorial as the user progresses through the app. Once the results are tabulated, users receive a score and can print out a PDF with all the questions and their answers, which they can use to affirm their current efforts or help them build a business case for improving or implementing a DG strategy and action plan.

“We’ve been working with data a long time and believe that a new approach and cultural shift is required for effective data governance, one that extends to and empowers the entire enterprise,” says McDonagh. “We think this app will be helpful to organizations in determining what current strengths and weaknesses are and how to address the most important factors in terms of overall DG success. And while it’s critical for compliance, data governance provides the framework to unlock even more strategic value from data assets.”
