erwin’s NoSQL Data Modeling Solution Named a Trend-Setting Product for 2018

MELVILLE, N.Y., Dec. 6, 2017erwin, Inc., the data management experts, today announced its NoSQL data modeling solution appears on Database Trends and Applications (DBTA) magazine’s fifth annual list of top products.

The list, “DBTA Trend-Setting Products for 2018,” recognizes products in the marketplace that are both innovative and effective in helping customers address evolving challenges and opportunities in data management and analysis.

erwin DM NoSQL is the only enterprise-class data modeling solution for MongoDB, the world’s fastest-growing NoSQL database platform, providing rapid app deployment, cloud infrastructure migration and reverse-engineering. Key capabilities include native design and deployment for NoSQL data structures, discovery and visualization of NoSQL databases and on-demand modeling.

In addition, erwin DM NoSQL features erwin Query-Optimized Modeling™, patent-pending technology that automatically guides users in effectively building MongoDB schemas that support application data access requirements, ensuring optimal data performance for every MongoDB application.

“We’re thrilled to see erwin DM NoSQL listed among the top 100 trend-setters DBTA recognizes in its special December edition,” says Martin Owen, erwin’s vice president of product strategy. “We appreciate being acknowledged for helping enterprises model and manage unstructured cloud data with the same rigor and effectiveness as traditional data sources, maintaining the integrity, quality and governance of their underlying data. While the first version of erwin DM NoSQL supports MongoDB, we anticipate support for other database platforms to follow soon.”

“Businesses rely on IT to deliver a competitive edge,” remarks Tomas Hogan, group publisher of DBTA. “However, it has become very difficult to sift through all the hype and identify products that produce results in the real world. We created this list to do the heavy lifting for you, pointing out the products that are really transforming enterprise data management and analysis.”

erwin Unveils New Data Governance Software

CHICAGO, Nov. 14, 2017erwin, Inc., the data management experts, premiered its new data governance (DG) solution today at DATAVERSITY’s Data Architecture Summit. erwin DG is a SaaS solution that expands data governance beyond IT, so all organizational stakeholders can discover, understand, govern and socialize data to mitigate risk, improve organizational performance and accelerate growth. Because erwin DG integrates with the company’s other data management solutions, businesses gain powerful insights into how potential data changes will impact enterprise operations.

“Data Governance 1.0 has failed because it’s been treated as a siloed IT program instead of an enterprise initiative with strategic value,” explains Adam Famularo, CEO of erwin, Inc. “We believe a different, persona-based approach is required, with everyone – from executives on down – invested in and accountable for data use. When data becomes everyone’s business, you create an enterprise data governance experience that makes it possible to mitigate risks while maximizing data’s upsides for peak business performance. That’s the power of Data Governance 2.0.”

Because erwin DG integrates with erwin’s data modeling (DM), enterprise architecture (EA) and business process (BP) modeling applications, customers have even more comprehensive and effective data governance. Together, they power erwin DG’s game-changing Data Impact Analysis capability, a simple and easy way for stakeholders to identify all places where specific data resides to determine how changes will impact people, processes and systems before they are implemented.

“If you don’t know where your data is and what it connects to, you can’t guarantee that changes will be made correctly,” notes Famularo. “erwin DG provides data visibility and control across the enterprise, not just data lineage, to reduce risks and costs. And our customers will understand their data in context, maximizing their DM, EA and BP investments.”

erwin DG also features an integrated business glossary, data dictionary and data catalog, as well as lineage mapping and policy authoring. In addition, the software provides:

  • Support for any data, anywhere (Any2) – Relational, unstructured, on-premise and cloud-based data assets are coupled with well-documented business rules to ensure standards are followed.
  • Collaboration and organizational empowerment – Business and IT stakeholders have consistent, role-based views of the data relevant to their roles to build trust, ensure alignment and enhance decision-making.
  • Integrated ecosystem – The systems that manage and protect data are unified by a common metadata repository for consistent exchange, understanding and processing.
  • Visibility across all domains – Silos between the business and IT are broken down with a common data vocabulary, so changes to systems, processes and people can be measured quickly to produce the desired organizational outcomes.
  • Regulatory peace of mind – Mitigate a wide range of risks, from GDPR to cybersecurity, to protect customer trust and prevent reputational damage.

“erwin DG ensures that the right data with the right quality, regardless of format or location, is available to the right people for the right purpose,” Famularo concludes. “Without meaning, agreed standards and context, data can’t be used, much less trusted, to make decisions that reduce risks and realize business goals. The global erwin customer base will benefit from the innovative and agile way our solutions work together to deliver an unmatched enterprise governance experience.”
